This is the first of what will hopefully be regular recordings from Our Saviour Lutheran Church, that I have given the category of “Expounding the Catechism”. Each Divine Service at Our Saviour is opened with a hymn, which is immediately followed by a corporate reading of a section of the Small Catechism, and a short homily on the text, leading into corporate confession and absolution.
The Lord’s Prayer (Sixth Petition)
And lead us not into temptation.
What is this?
God certainly tempts no one; but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice; and that, though they attack us, we would finally overcome and win the victory.
